Once upon a time, there was a famous musician.
むかし、有名な おんがくか（音楽家）が いました。
Everyone liked his music.
だれも この おんがくか（音楽家）の おんがくを 大好きでした。
One day, he came to a beautiful meadow.
ついたち（一日）きれいな ぼくそうち（牧草地）に 行きました。
He felt very happy.
この おんがくか（音楽家）は どても 幸せでした。
He look around the surroundings.
しゅうへん（周辺）を みました。
He saw a bull was grazing at the meadow.
ぼくそうち（牧草地）で おすうし（雄牛）を見ました。
So he started to play music for the bull.
However, the bull did not show any reactions.
しかし、おすうし（雄牛）は はんのうしませんでした。
The musician was very dissapointed.
この おんがくか（音楽家）は どても がっかりしていました。
The fable brought an idiom "Play music for a bull" (Literal Translation) to describe that it is a waste of time when a speaker explains something to a non understanding person. It also means a speaker speaks to a wrong subject.

ReplyDelete「だから、音楽家は音楽をひきました」の「だから」について。日本語の「だから」は「That is why...」という意味で、（Reason）だから（Action／Present state）となります。It is a bit strange to me that the cow's existence becomes the reason for the musician to play music (it might be a good reason for the musician, though). So in this case, それで might be more suitable conjunctive adverb.

ReplyDeleteAccording to the original text, the musician felt very happy when he came to a beautiful meadow. He wanted to play music. However, there were no human beings. He could only see a bull so he played music for the bull. But, he never know that the bull can not understand and admire his music.I had simplified the story.ありがとうございました。
